At 18 years of age, she signed a long-term contract with Paramount Pictures. The studio was drawn in by her beauty and had high hopes for her potential. Despite her extreme shyness, the studio took the approach that with acting coaches she would possibly become one of their biggest stars. Unfortunately, alcohol would be the choice of comfort to deal with shyness and anxiety at the most highest of levels. Several comebacks would be plagued by both mild and serious car accidents, periods of isolation, and an ongoing battle with alcoholism.
Her name is Gail Russell. A career that included films “The Uninvited” (1944) with Ray Milland, and with John Wayne in “Angel and the Badman” (1947). Despite her remarkable accomplishments as an actress, she would eventually be released by Paramount Pictures due to fears her drinking was worsening.
Gail Russell was only 36 years old when she was found dead in her apartment. What was found beside her speaks volumes of her emotional struggles. Did Gail Russell really want to be an actress? What was behind her chronic shyness that caused her so much distress in front of the camera? And what actually would make this silver screen beauty feel actual happiness and peace?
Learn more about Gail Russell as Hollywood historian and special guest Geoffrey Mark shares her biography with you the listeners. Join Host Steven Brittingham in paying tribute to a Hollywood star who deserves to be remembered on what will surely be a heartfelt episode of Hollywood and Beyond Podcast.

I am truly excited about the next episode. My special guest is Tom McLoughlin. The screenwriter/director of “Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives”. Many of you might assume that is the only topic focused on. Nothing could be further from the truth! Half the episode goes by before we dive into the making of Jason Lives. As if that wasn’t enough, the first half features Tom’s remarkable artistic journey. From his early years as a young boy sneaking onto the backlots of MGM Studios, onto his teen years joining a band (The Sloths) and performing on the Sunset Strip with encounters that feature Jim Morrison, to acting in Disney’s “The Black Hole” and learning about pantomime in France - this interview has it all.
You don’t have to be a fan of Friday the 13th to enjoy this interview. This interview ranks up there with some of my best!
He wrote the screenplay for “Friday the 13th Part 6:
Jason Lives”. (1986). He wasn’t finished. Upcoming special guest Tom McLoughlin also directed one of the most highly praised entries of the horror franchise. Hear about the making of the film, his artistic journey and what life is like today when Tom McLoughlin visits Hollywood and Beyond Podcast this month.

A Hollywood and Beyond with Steven Brittingham Podcast Special Presentation:
Remembering Michael Landon: with Geoffrey Mark, Chris Hendrie and Judith Chapman
Episode Created, Produced, Edited, and Hosted by: Steven Brittingham
I am extra excited about this Michael Landon special episode event. Recently, I concluded viewing the entire “Highway to Heaven” series via Netflix. Almost every episode listed Michael Landon during the opening credits as starring, written by, directed by, producer. He was doing all of this years before on “Little House on the Prairie” and even on “Bonanza.” Michael was heavily involved with his artistic projects to the fullest extent. What was his driving force? Was he striving for specific artistic goals? My three amazing guests have much to say about Michael’s incredible accomplishments, his life and who he was as a man.
The official title is: Remembering Michael Landon with Geoffrey Mark, Chris Hendrie and Judith Chapman. They are listed in order of appearance. All three interviews have specific topics but with one main theme - honoring Michael Landon as both an artist and a man.
This episode has three chapters. Here are the chapters, guests, and chapter topics:
Part One: Geoffrey Mark, a Hollywood historian who also happens to be an author among many other titles, will be sharing with all of you Michael's early life years, early acting career, and 'Bonanza'. He will then share Michael's friendship with Johnny Carson, his life as a father, and his courageous final days.
Here is what is extra exciting for me as a host. I continue to challenge myself artistically. This first chapter is not a typical conversation or question and answer format. Instead, for this chapter only, I will be mentioning various topics or questions with Geoffrey sharing the answer in a storytelling approach. Sit back and just let Geoffrey share his knowledge and stories of Michael, with only a few moments of me heard during this segment. First time ever taking this approach but it works so well for listening to Michael's biography. Geoffrey also shares his knowledge about Michael in a respectful and entertaining manner.
Part Two: Chris Hendrie, an accomplished actor who once worked with Anthony Perkins, shares his memorable role on "Little House on the Prairie" and the intense conclusion of his two-part episode appearance on that show. This is a highly regarded two-part episode that aired on "Little House on the Prairie" - and Chris shares all of it with you. He also shares his experience on 'Highway to Heaven', and Michael’s master approach to artistic projects. Hear carefully selected clips from these episodes, put together by me in a dramatic and heartfelt manner.
(Part Two and Three is a conversation/interview approach you often hear me take on every episode of Hollywood and Beyond.)
Chapter Three: The amazing and dynamic Judith Chapman shares the backstory of her memorable performance on a outstanding 'Highway to Heaven' episode. She also shares a personal story involving Michael, and his daughter Jennifer. There are some heartfelt and emotional moments with my conversation with this wonderful actress. Not to be missed!
Lastly, there will also be a special introduction to the episode by me. At the conclusion of the episode who better to end this epic episode than the man himself - Michael Landon.
There are carefully selected clips, music, and much more. I can't say enough how this is a truly emotional and informative special episode event. Running time is close to three hours in length. This is the sort of experience where you grab your favorite drinks and feel the emotional experience of "Remembering Michael Landon with Geoffrey Mark, Chris Hendrie and Judith Chapman."
